Materials and Manufacturing Process of Medical Non-Wovens: Medical non-wovens are primarily made from polypropylene using the Spunbond-Meltblown-Spunbond (SMS) composite process. This structure balances strength with filtration capabilities; the fibers in the meltblown layer (M-layer) are fine-on the micron scale-enabling them to effectively block bacteria and particulates. Certain products, such as SMMS non-wovens (which feature an additional meltblown layer), offer enhanced filtration efficiency, blocking over 99% of 0.3-micron particles and meeting the rigorous standards required for the sterilization packaging of medical devices.

Practical Applications: Medical non-wovens are widely used in applications such as surgical packs, dressing kits, and packaging for medical implants. Their single-use nature eliminates the risk of cross-contamination, while the packaging ensures a smooth appearance and a tight seal, facilitating convenient storage and transport. Furthermore, the addition of antistatic agents or hydrophilic coatings to some products has expanded their utility to include packaging for electronic components and precision instruments.
