Adhesive tape is a bonding material composed primarily of a backing substrate and an adhesive; transparent tape was invented in 1928 by American engineer Richard Drew in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Adhesive formulations have evolved from early animal and plant-based ingredients to modern polymer materials, while backing substrates include types such as BOPP, cloth, and PVC. Functionally, these tapes are categorized into varieties such as high-temperature tape, double-sided tape, and electrical insulation tape.

China's adhesive tape industry is growing at an annual rate of 16%, with products serving sectors including electronics, telecommunications, packaging, construction, automotive, and healthcare. The 2025 Shenzhen International Film & Tape Expo, themed "Film Innovation, Bonding Everything," features five major exhibition zones-covering areas such as new energy materials and equipment, high-performance materials, and intelligent die-cutting-and spans application sectors including photovoltaics, lithium batteries, and 3C electronics; over 30 industry technical forums will be held concurrently.
